Panama looks spectacular! Your house looks pretty nice -- is there running water inside?

No running water inside the house. We have sinks behind the house, and a shower next door at the grandmothers house. The toilet is a pit latrine that is also shared with the grandmothers house. We have electricty, but it only powers for lights and a fan. There is a TV next door at the grandmothers place and one two houses down at the aunts place.

Hi Josh, This is Patti and Aunt Polly, She thinks your host house looks very nice. Everyone thinks we are underwater here in Fl, but we have been very lucky. I fly to DC tomorrow to stay in your old room! LOve you. Patti and Polly

It sounds like you have a large extended family. Are there any animals or pets?

I love the pictures! Panama looks beautiful. I love how green everything is. I like the house you're living in; its very cute. How are you getting along with your host family? The the whole extended family live right there by each other? Sounds like grandma is the one with the cushiest house. You'll have to post pictures of your host family at somt point too. Glad to see you're doing well and happy and smiley in all your pictures.

My house is on the lower end of the spectrum in terms of amenities. Some of the other houses are much nicer (indoor plumbing and showers, tvs, refrigerators, etc.) but I got lucky with my family. The family has one dog, and another belonging to the aunt or grandmother.

The people are definitely more important than the amenities. It's kind of fun washing outside -- I loved the outdoor shower at our Cape Cod house!

Hi Josh!
I'm really enjoying your blog. Thanks for the photos. What an adventure you are on! This week in the US we've had the excitment of the Democratic Convention (just over) and today's annoucement of the Governor of Alaska as Senator McCain's running mate. Is there much interest among your family members there, or others you meet, in the US election? If so, what are their thoughts? Do you have much access to world news where you are? All the Rogers in San Francisco send their love -

Hi Josh,
I'm writing from Stockbridge and a gorgeous fall day waiting for the weather to turn.
I love your blog not just because of the pictures and the tales you tell but mostly because you are a terrific observer and story teller. I'm sure that has a lot to do with your heightened senses!
Best of all, you look happy and excited about this new chapter.
Good luck with the horse thing - the joke is that one shouldn't buy something that eats at night!
much love
